Mapping beje pond as fish source in a tropical peat swamp using Landsat 8 OLI-TIRS imagery

چکیده
Abstract Tropical peatlands in Indonesia are severely degraded due to unsustainable logging, conversion plantations, poor drainage, and repeated fires. Traditional communities Central Kalimantan used build “beje” ponds for fishing paludikulur farming system (agrosilvo fishery) deep area that frequently flooded. However, hardly reached spot peat swamp makes areas suitable beje difficult find. This study aims map the location using Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) from Landsat 8 OLI imagery. Canopy results NDWI were as a reference field investigations at nine sites each class. The classification test show is able distinguish dry wet tropical peatlands, with manufacturer accuracy of 83.3% user 84.9%. As result, development ±9,616 ha, or 6.2% total studied.

Target Detection Method for Water Mapping Using Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Imagery
Extracting surface water distribution with satellite imagery has been an important subject in remote sensing. Spectral indices of water only use information from a limited number of bands, thus they may have poor performance from pixels contaminated by ice/snow, clouds, etc. The detection algorithms using information from all spectral bands, such as constrained energy minimization (CEM), could ...
متن کاملOvercoming Limitations with Landsat Imagery for Mapping of Peat Swamp Forests in Sundaland
Landsat can be used to map tropical forest cover at 15–60 m resolution, which is helpful for detecting small but important perturbations in increasingly fragmented forests. However, among the remaining Landsat satellites, Landsat-5 no longer has global coverage and, since 2003, a mechanical fault in the Scan-Line Corrector (SLC-Off) of the Landsat-7 satellite resulted in a 22–25% data loss in e...
متن کاملAutomated Subpixel Surface Water Mapping from Heterogeneous Urban Environments Using Landsat 8 OLI Imagery
Water bodies are a fundamental element of urban ecosystems, and water mapping is critical for urban and landscape planning and management. Remote sensing has increasingly been used for water mapping in rural areas; however, when applied to urban areas, this spatiallyexplicit approach is a challenging task due to the fact that the water bodies are often of a small size and spectral confusion is ...
متن کاملA Bi-Band Binary Mask Based Land-Use Change Detection Using Landsat 8 OLI Imagery
Land use and cover change (LUCC) is important for the global biogeochemical cycle and ecosystem. This paper introduced a change detection method based on a bi-band binary mask and an improved fuzzy c-means algorithm to research the LUCC. First, the bi-band binary mask approach with the core concept being the correlation coefficients between bands from different images are used to locate target ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Matched Filter method for wind erosion mapping Landsat 8 OLI Imagery, (Central and North West province of Khuzestan)
Successful target detection, especially if there is a similarity between the target and the background area, always is a noticeable issue in remote sensing studies. Because of the spectral behavior similarity to the other phenomena and spatial distribution of these units, the mapping of wind erosion units is difficult. Thus, this study attempts to detect the favorable areas by using matched fil...
